When should P/B be used to value a company?

  • When the company is not expected to continue as a going concern. Fair value of assets less liabilities is company’s value.
  • The company is composed of liquid assets. (finance companies, investment companies, insurance companies, etc.)
  • EPS is highly variable or negative
